World Cup Skicross qualification at St. Johann, Austria
St Johann, Kitzbuhel, Austria, the home of the world famous World Cup Skicross night race, is once again ready to make night skiing history. Who will win? Nobody yet knows, but I can feel the skicross gods calling for father Kraus. The track is icy, slick and short. The community is anticipating a crowd of thousands of skicrossers and race fans from all over the world.
The qualification runs for the second stop on the 2011 FIS World Cup Skicross circut went well for the Czech Skicross Team. World Champion, Tomáš Kraus, qualified 3rd and Zdenek Šafář was fast enough to make it to the men´s heat events. Unfortunately, Jakub Kopřiva crashed early in the day. While training before training, he went down and had to seek medical attention back home in the Czech Republic.
For the women, Czech soon to be superstar Nikol Kučerová kept the fire burning from Italy with a blazing fast 8th place qualification run. She is posing a real threat to the seasoned veterans, as well as the World Champion.
For now they will rest and prepare mentally for the challenges that lie ahead. The atmosphere is vibrant and the electricity in the air is red bull hot. Tomorrow we race at 18:00 Friday.
